It's a fascinating article as Dave Renton can cope, and comment on the fact that Gerry Gable's Zionism was problematic for some on the left. But he can't cope, or even directly refer to Gable's associations with the secret state, which dogged Searchlight's reputation for 40 years. The Gable Memorandum anyone? The eventual split with AFA? Worth a mention in a political assessment surely?

Paul, here's the link to that Memorandum - people can make of it what they will. https://borderland.co.uk/gable-memo-proving-mi5-links/.

I didn't write the piece as a total scholarly review of Gable's life, but to reflect my immediate feelings on his death. There's a lot more that could be said against him, plainly. If you want a single additional example, beyond the ones you cite - having spent 13 years publicising the SWP's 2013 scandal and the wrongdoings of Martin Smith / Comrade Delta - I should have mentioned the obvious fact that Gable let Smith write for Searchlight around a dozen times since that scandal, including most recently here, https://searchlightmagazine.com/2023/03/the-budahazy-case-terrorism-and-the-state/

Thank you Dave. I am sure those more wide ranging reviews will come in due course.

Martin Smith continued to write for Unite Against Fascism publications under the pen name "Milo Samuels" (MS .... geddit ?!) well into 2015. He has always been a personal friend of Weymann Bennett of UAF and has maintained close personal friendships and contact with some SWP CC members.

SWP influence got him a PhD candidate placement at Liverpool Hope university alongside SWP friend and academic Rick Blackman. Some believe (I don't BTW) that he never actually left the SWP and is a so called Back Seat Driver.
